tip of the hat

i don't know if you know this, but my favorite tv show (of the moment) is mad men. one of my favorite don draper rituals is not the smokin', not the boozin', not the philanderin', but rather i love when don gets into the office every morning, takes off his coat and hat, and hands it to his secretary. while i don't really condone hot secretaries having to take a man's coat and hat every morning when he could very well hang them up himself, i'd gladly take don's hat (but only don, and he's a fictional character, so guys don't get your hopes up).

anyways, hats! i'm obsessed with them. so when i saw fiona when i was leaving the dining hall, i had to tell her i loved her hat. also, i really liked how put together she looked even though it was about 7885290 degrees outside. while everyone was melting (including me), fiona put on a sensible hat as her own tirade against the sun. smart.

oooh blue nail polish. awesome.

grandfather sweater

almost a year ago, derek left this sweater (inherited from his granddad's closet) at my apartment. it has been sitting idly in my closet for all this time screaming at me to wear it. unfortunately, i never did because i was afraid that i would mess it up (considering my penchant for coffee which equals shaky hands + stained heirloom sweaters).

as the story goes, derek finally reclaimed his sweater last week en route to his new place in chicago. people tell me that you need lots of sweaters to live in chicago, which i don't really understand. does it have something to do with the city's nickname? i know the nickname is something like "the big apple" or "city of angels" or "ATL"? i don't get it; those have nothing to do with sweaters.

anyways, i love derek to death and wish him all the best in the blustery midwest.

shorter days, longer nights

although the sun is setting a little bit earlier every day, summer is still in full force with 90+ degree weather forecasts for this week. keep on rockin' those flirty, flouncy skirts like andrea. because before you know it, you'll be wearing long johns.

lace up

after a summer of open toes, i'm glad socks are back. but sometimes it takes some inspiration to get back in the habit of wearing socks and closed-toe shoes after wearing your no-brainer flip flops every day for 4 months. for some motivation to open up that sock drawer, check out victoria's look. i love how she paired her metallic oxfords with baby blue tube socks. cool, yes?

scout's honor

as some of you know, the library isn't really a place to study. in fact, i only go to the library to sporcle. however, after a while i run out of sporcle quizzes and find that i have nothing else to do. my eyes wander to the books i bring (only as props so i can look like i belong in a library), and i'm tempted to read them. but no more of that! i have found that the library is a great place to meet cool cats like hannah (featured below). thank goodness i picked up this fashion blogging thing because really, i don't want to do work this semester. especially in a library.

there's nothing better than vintage boy scout shirts and a watch that can add and subtract.

day of firsts

tuesday, 8/24/10. first day of classes at uva. first day of photo-stalking good looking people.

so i've wanted to start a street style blog since i was born. you know, since back in the day when people still called them "web logs". i just want to shake the hand of the person who decided to call them "blogs" instead of "weblogs" which i'm sure would have been pronounced "WEEB-logs".

anyways so here i am. posting pictures of the beautiful people of charlottesville, virginia, mostly on the university of virginia grounds. my main mission is to tell people they look good and to take photos of them looking good. and it's a nice side effect that people may start looking good so i can feature them on my blog, right? so watch out. i may come up to you and compliment you on your style and take a picture of you. with your permission, of course, because i have a terrible time being discreet about anything.

a big thanks to hannah (fresh from an italian spa) and tyler elise (for her refined after-gymnastics-class style).

and you can't start a school year right without this guy:
